A fun and challenging event for anyone interested in running
The annual Gibbet Hill 10K race is a multi-terrain run through an area of outstanding natural beauty adjacent to The Devil’s Punch Bowl. The race gets its name from the grizzly murder of a sailor walking from London to Portsmouth many years ago to join his ship. The two men responsible were caught and hanged at the highpoint on the route of the course.
The race starts on Weydown Road at 7.30pm and finishes on Lion Green at Weyhill. The race is well marshalled and suitable for everyone from serious runners and to those who will complete the challenge at their own pace. Prizes are awarded at the end in various categories followed by a drink if you are so inclined at The Apple Tree, Haslemere (suitably close to the finish line).
The race is along roads, tracks and paths through beautiful countryside, by kind permission of the National Trust. Regrettably the course is not suitable for wheelchair racers. The event is run under UK Athletics rules.
